This is a brief overview of my equipment / computers / home automation.

Main Computer: Mac Pro Dual Xeon w/2 Gigs of ram running Mac OS X

Parallels is used to load up Windows XP for VPN’ing into work and using Microsoft Access.

Home Server: AMD X2 3800 w/2 Gigs of ram running GNU Linux (Debian)

The home server is my file / media / VoIP / backup / home automation and development server. It has four 400GB Drives running in Raid 5 (one drive is fall over, 3 are active which gives about 750gb usable space). Throughout the day the server performs routine backups of my live sites on remote servers, performs logging, and runs numerous cron jobs.

The home automation aspect is rather simple, just a few X10 devices which are controllable via a custom web interface that I built. It also logs all events and allows the scheduling of devices. The server also logs the room temperature, which I hope to in the future tie into more advanced automated options.
